How to Choose The Best Bedside Light!

Do you like to read before bed?

Is your existing lighting not focused or bright enough to see the pages?

Would you like to be able to change your position and have your lighting change with you?

Choosing good bedside lighting is a lot more complex than some people realize! You can buy any old bedside light and throw it on your nightstand, but you may discover that it’s not bright enough, that the light shines in your eyes and not on the page, or that it’s too tall to reach comfortably from your bed. There are a few fundamentals to keep in mind that will ensure your bedside light is perfect for your reading needs.

Size of the light

Think about how you sit or lie in your bed. You don’t want to have to stretch to reach the switch for your lamp, especially since you’ll be reaching for it every night! If your bedside light is too tall, the light will be hitting your eyes, and could strain your eyes. If it’s too short, the light won’t be where you need it.

The exact positioning and size of your lamp will depend on the layout of your bedroom, but here are some good rules of thumb. A light switch should be about 21 to 30 inches off the floor, and about an arm’s length away from the bed. Your lamp should be no bigger than ⅓ the size of the table you put it on to prevent it from being unstable. Our Gooseneck lights are perfect here because of way they mount, clipping to your night stand and preventing your light from falling over!

Color of light

Some people complain about the glaring, piercing quality of white light, which can be helpful for detail work but can be irritating right before bed. You may find that a soft red or pink light provides the light and mood you’re looking for. On the other hand, the bright quality of white light may be perfect for rooting around in a bedside drawer or bin. Take some time to think about the kinds of light you may want, or contact us to ask about your options!

Design of your light

Don’t forget about the rest of your room when picking out your bedside light! If you have a large bed, a very small lamp may look out of place next to it. Before making a purchase, be sure to think about cost, utility, and design.

Littlite bedside lights make the perfect addition to any bedroom. With a long, adjustable gooseneck, dimmer controls, and LED or halogen lights in red or white light, you’re sure to find what you need. Browse our store or custom build a light to your exact specifications!

Bedside Lights Can Be Used in Many Places Around The House

Do you like to read at night before bed?

Do you worry about keeping your partner up with too much light?

Is it hard to search through a bedside drawer in the dark?

You’re not alone! It can be hard to strike the right balance between too much and too little light. Bright bedside lights can strain your eyes, keep others awake, and disrupt your sleeping habits. We’ve heard from many customers over the years that our bedside lights are a “marriage saver!” Many people have found that a small, flexible gooseneck light, is perfect for this situation because our lights can be mounted on the headboard or a nightstand. But these lights have plenty of uses outside the bedroom!

Additional lights can be used in a garage or workshop to work on a hobby or DIY project. You can use bright, focused light for reading, wherever you may be. If you need to see while others have the lights dimmed for a movie, gooseneck lights have you covered. If you want to create the kind of atmosphere or mood that bright, overhead lights destroy, gooseneck lamps can put the light right where you need it.

Littlite gooseneck lights have a variety of customizable features, from clamps and mountings to dimmers and focusers that will provide the exact amount of light you’re looking for. Any room with an outlet -kitchens, laundry rooms, or garages- can be easy to light. Just plug in a Littlite and you’ll have perfect lighting for your work or hobby. Our line of bedside lights has uses in every room of the house- email info@littlitedirect.com to learn more or buy a light from the Littlite store now!

Suffer from Migraines? A Desk Light Could Help Get You Relief Today!

Do you suffer from frequent migraines at work?

Do you suffer from constant eye strain?

You could benefit from a desk light!

According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), “high contrast between light and dark areas of the computer screen, horizontal work surface, and surrounding areas can cause eye fatigue and headaches.

Possible Solution:
  • For computer work, use well-distributed diffuse desk light. The advantage of diffuse lighting is that:
    • There are fewer glare surfaces in the visual field.
    • The contrasts created by the shape of objects tend to be softer.
  • Use light, matte colors and finishes on walls and ceilings to better reflect indirect lighting and reduce dark shadows and contrast.”

Imagine working in a headache-free environment! How much more productive will you be? How much more work will get done because you can now focus on your work, rather than worrying about when your headache will subside. Our desk lights may be your best medicine!

The Migraine Action Association have conducted research that proves exposure to “low-energy light” can cause migraines. However, there’s a difference between “low energy light” and “energy saving light bulbs.” Florescent lighting and regular light bulbs are “low-energy lights” but have been known to cause migraines, so switch to LED today!

Littlite Proudly Supports Boy Scouts!

The owners of Littlite, Jim and Rhonda Fackert, are avid supporters of the Boy Scouts of America, often donating to their local council. John Parzuchowski, a Littlite employee and proud boy scout father, also works to help his local community through helping the Boy Scouts. John is the Charter Organization Representative for Hartland Boy Scout Troop 381.

His son Jack is in his final stages as an Eagle Scout candidate. For his final Eagle Scout project, Jack designed and built a concrete launch pad for model rockets near the small airfield at Manly W. Bennett Memorial Park in Hamburg Township, where the Hamburg Flyers Radio Control Club meets to fly model airplanes.

"It is supposed to be monitored by the club for safety and insurance, even though it's on township-owned land," Parzuchowski said. Safety is a major concern, so Jack needed to get approval from Hamburg Flyers President Eugene Doncea and present the idea to township officials for questions and answers.

John says, "Jim and Rhonda's support through Littlite LLC. has helped me understand the true value of Corporate Stewardship.  We may be a small business, but we help the community in large ways. Today I am very proud!"

XLR/LLX/FYI

We're all about problem solving here at Littlite and sometimes that requires a little creative thinking and a touch of gazing into our crystal ball.

When we designed the LLX, our proprietary XLR connector, we had a short list of "Things It Had To Do". One of those "Things" was the ability to change the position of the pin insert inside the connector and it had to be a process that could be done easily with standard tools.

We did that but why?

Well, since you asked . . .

Many audio and lighting consoles opt to install the task light connector(s) on the back panel of the console. You could use a Littlite Console light with a straight XLR connector but you would lose some of the usable length as you curved the light up and over to illuminate the work surface. A right angle XLR connector puts more of the gooseneck light over the work surface and allows for better flexibility.

Many commonly used XLR panel sockets have a release tab that you have to push in order to remove the XLR plug.

Most manufacturers install the panel socket

with the tab down so it can still be accessed
with a gooseneck light in place.

And so we manufacture our XR series console

lights to be compatible.

But what if a manufacturer decides to install the XLR socket "upside down"? A standard right angle gooseneck light connected to this socket would point towards the floor, great for finding dropped hotel room keys, not so great for running sound and lights.

That's where our LLX comes in handy. You can remove the set screw, carefully pull out the pin insert and rotate the pins to conform to the XLR panel socket. (How To Rotate LLX Pin Insert)

Now the light will go in the right direction. . the release tab will still be obstructed but we'll get to work on that next!

Why Littlite Workshop Lights Are Easy to Install!

Do you work with sensitive equipment or equipment with small parts? Do you need better workshop lighting to make sure you get the job done right?

Are you thinking of purchasing a gooseneck LED light?

Are you worried about installing it yourself?

Here at Littlite we offer a wide variety of products for surface and flush mounting applications, which are ideal for workshop lighting. Think of how much time you’ll save with an installed light, rather than setting up a desk lamp every time you need one!

Don’t spend extra money on a complicated light that requires you to hire a lighting technician. Littlite workshop lights are easy to install it yourself, saving you money. Applicable drilling templates and instructions are available on the Littlite website and installation videos are available on our YouTube page!

We offer a wide range of individual mounting accessories, mounting plates, dimmers and mountable gooseneck lights for a truly custom installation.

For permanent mounting applications, our unique chassis plate design is ideal. The 1x1x3 chassis takes up very little space and with your choice of gooseneck lengths and mounting orientation, it’s easy to install! You’ll be able to position the light where you need it for perfect workshop lighting.

As a second, temporary option to light up your work area, Littlite workshop lights with a magnetic back can be mounted to your tool chest or machinery, and lights with a clamp can be attached to virtually any surface!

Littlite strives to offer you the best lighting solution for your home or office, and have many options available! To find the best workshop lighting that fits your needs, visit our products page and make a purchase that will change the way you view lighting!

Sometime simple is best.

LCR Utility Light.

Sometimes you just need a simple utility light that can be mounted, powered and turned on and off as needed. No bells or whistles, just a sturdy, easy to install work light.

Our LCR series is just that . . . a gooseneck light mounted on a heavy-duty metal mounting plate with a push button on/off switch. Two mounting screw holes and a pass-through for the power cord and you’re ready to go. Power it off of a 12-Volt supply.

The LCR mounting plate footprint and hole patterns are similar to other utility lights and, in many cases, the LCR can replace an old, worn utility with no re-drilling required.

Available with a 12 or 18 inch gooseneck in LED or Halogen models.

Simple.

No Connector? No problem! Part duex.

A few months ago we told you about our new 18X-LED-NA for use on consoles without a dedicated task light connector. It’s been brought to our attention that we needed a right angle version of this light so let’s all say hello to the 18XR-LED-NA.

To refresh your memory: While it would be nice to use a 48-Volt phantom powered mic input for a task light, there are a few technical reasons why that isn’t possible (as explained in an earlier blog post). But couldn’t you use an unused mic input to hold the light and power it with our regular power supply? The answer is yes, you can as long as you have one of these nifty Littlites.

And, as an added bonus, these babies include an in-line dimmer allowing you to get the mood just right!

No Connector? No problem!

One of the sad facts of life is that not every audio console includes a task light connector. As you can imagine, this state of affairs baffles us, confounds us, causes us great confusion and keeps us awake at night. However, our mission to provide reliable task lighting for all those audio soldiers will not be thwarted by this glaring omission.

Sure, you can use one of our free standing work lights such as the LW-18-LED (and please, do!) but often your work space is limited and finding room for a desk lamp can be a problem. A problem with a solution.

When we designed our own XLR connector a few years ago, we built in some extra functionality that enables us to produce our new 18X-LED-NA. It kinda sorta looks like a regular Littlite but it has a little something extra.

The 18X-LED-NA is designed to plug into any XLR panel socket such as an open microphone input and plugs into any regular power strip or wall socket for power. (No, you can’t power it with phantom power, sorry). We’ve removed the pin insert from the XLR connector and we’ve included a dimmer control (Bonus!).

Our Gen V LED circuitry provided gobs of warm, white light and the 18X-LED-NA, like all Littlite products, is built to take a beating.

Helping someone add our lights to a unique or unusual application is sometimes challenging but always fun. Here's an example of one of the fun projects. There was very little space left in this synth module case for any sort of lighting  . . but that's okay, we are Littlite after all . . . a couple of XLR panel sockets on the outside of the case, wire them to a power supply outlet jack on the side of the case, add a couple of X-Series Littlite LED gooseneck lights and it's mission accomplished once again.
